Our Story

After talking with men and women working as coffee harvesters in the coffee producing community of Vila do Café, Encruzilhada, Bahia, Brazil, we learned that they struggled to meet their children’s basic needs for food, education, and health. We began working with people of this community in 2004, and as we learned with and from them over the years, our mission has evolved: we work with people in coffee producing countries to improve children’s lives through programs in education, health, sustainability, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (W.A.S.H.).

With a Denver-based headquarters and Board of Directors, Generative Partners® carries out its programs in collaboration with local people and organizations in the communities we serve. Our Program Coordinator in Vila do Café, Encruzilhada, Bahia, Brazil grew up as the daughter of coffee farm laborers and lives in this community. She also serves on the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Vila do Café, whose members collaborate in our programs. This ensures that local individuals have a voice in program design and a commitment to the long-term well-being of children in the community. We also partner with the Foundation of Assistance and Human Development for Children and Adolescents of Vitória da Conquista (aka FAMEC) in Bahia, Brazil to provide children and teens ages 5-17 in situations of risk and vulnerability with healthy meals, safe drinking water, education, enriching programs such as capoeira (a Brazilian dance / martial art), music, percussion, art, dance (pictured here), and counseling. We have also worked with local people and organizations in the coffee growing community of Talnique, La Libertad, El Salvador to serve children there through programs focused on education, health, and water, sanitation, and hygiene.

All Generative Partners programs celebrate local culture, are designed in cooperation with the people we serve, and promote local leadership development and environmental stewardship.
